The D-Link DGS-1201-24/E switch is equipped with 20 Gigabit LAN ports and 4 RJ45/SFP combo ports for fiber/copper links. The D-Link DGS-1210-24/E is part of D-Link's third generation of smart web switches. It offers enhanced management and advanced security features.

Description

Seamless Integration

The DGS-1210-24 includes 24 10/100/1000 Mbps ports capable of connecting to Cat.5 twisted pair cables. In addition, the last four ports of the DGS-1210-1224 combine SFP and copper connectivity in one port, thus offering a flexible solution for server connections via fiber interface. Using the default presets, the administrator can quickly configure the switch without worrying about reconfiguring settings and with easy user access.

Extensive Layer 2 Features

Equipped with a full range of Layer 2 features, these switches include IGMP snooping, port mirroring, Spanning Tree, and Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP). The standard IEEE 802.3x Flow Control feature allows servers to connect directly to the switch for fast, reliable data transfer. At 2000 Mbps full duplex, Gigabit ports provide high-speed data pipes to servers with minimal data transfer loss. Network loopback maintenance functions include detection and cable diagnostics. Loopback detection is used to detect loops created by a specific port and automatically shuts down the affected port. Cable diagnostics is designed for network administrators to quickly examine the quality of copper cables and also determine the type of cable error.

QoS and Bandwidth Control

The switch is perfect for deployment in a VoIP environment, as it supports Auto Voice VLAN and Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) QoS for VoIP applications. Auto Voice VLAN automatically places voice traffic from an IP phone into an assigned VLAN, thereby improving VoIP service. With a higher priority and individual VLAN, this feature ensures the quality and security of VoIP traffic. DSCP marks parts of an IP packet, allowing different service levels to be assigned for network traffic. With bandwidth control, the network administrator can reserve bandwidth for important functions that require higher bandwidth or have been unable to be given high priority.

Secure Your Network

D-Link's unique Safeguard feature protects the switch engine from traffic floods caused by virus attacks. The switch also supports port-based 802.1X authentication, allowing the network to authenticate through an external RADIUS server. In addition, the Access Control List (ACL) feature enhances network security and helps protect the internal IT network. The DGS-1210-24 includes ARP Spoofing Prevention, which protects against Ethernet network attacks that can allow an intruder to sniff data frames on a LAN, modify traffic, or bring traffic to a complete halt by sending false ARP messages to the network. To prevent ARP spoofing attacks, the switch uses ACL packet control to block invalid packets containing false ARP messages. For added security, the DHCP server detection screens rogue DHCP server packets from user ports to prevent unauthorized IP assignment.

Versatile Management

The DGS-1210-24 provides a SmartConsole utility and a web-based management interface that allows administrators to remotely control their network down to the port level. The SmartConsole utility allows clients to discover multiple D-Link Web Smart switches on the same L2 network segment. With this utility, users do not need to change their PC's IP address and it also provides easy initial setup of the Smart Switches. Switches on the same L2 network segment that are connected to the user's PC are displayed on the screen for instant access. This allows for extensive switch configuration options and basic configuration of found devices, such as password changes and firmware updates. The DGS-1210-24 also supports D-View 6.0, D-Link's own Network Management System, and the Compact Command Line Interface (CLI) via Telnet. This makes setting basic options like password changes or firmware and uploading the configuration file possible.

D-Link Green

The DGS-1210-24 implements D-Link Green, an innovative concept that provides energy savings without sacrificing operating performance or functionality. The switch reacts when devices connected to it are turned off, placing the corresponding port in standby mode which requires less power. It also automatically detects the length of connected cables, allowing power consumption to be reduced on shorter cable connections up to 20 m. D-Link Green certification ensures that the switch complies with the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) and WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directives. RoHS restricts the use of specific hazardous materials during the manufacture of electrical and electronic products, while WEEE applies standards for proper disposal and recyclable packaging to help reduce waste.
